July 2024 Group Call

Background thoughts before you start writing.

Keynote Topic:

  • Who’s the Audience?
  • What do they need? A simple plan, framework, model, connecting words, something to remember, and take the PHOTO of your slide.
  • What does the audience want? To be Inspired, Entertained, Educated, have Hope
  • What problem or problems are you solving?
  • What is your overall message:

Structure helps create a keynote that flows, from one section to the next where all examples, stories, and learning points steer the audience toward your overall message.

Throughout the keynote, every chunk, story, and example should tap into – Think, Feel, Know, and Do. Ask yourself, what do I want the audience to do with this example, story, chunk… think differently about the topic, feel an emotion, learn something new, go out and do something.

The Opener:

The goal of the opener is to capture the audience’s attention about your topic, to like you, to connect with you, and to trust you.

Why you? add Empathy and Authority stories

Bring the audience into your opener by asking:

How often have you – Think back to a time – Have you ever – Did you experience

Include

The Promise” Tell them what you want them to do…. “My goal today is to stop all this generation bashing and for us to discover the power of unity and collaboration across the generations. When you do this, you plant the “what it is that you want them to do or change” and it will help guide their mind through your program and keep up with you.

The Chunks: Teaching Points- Education

Here’s where the fun comes in. Make each chunk a mini-program. Make it interesting, and fun, and add a story that “falls in line”, with your message. (you can use a chunk in a different keynote) some chunks I’ve had for years, and they are still fun and interesting. Keep your stories tight… tip: start the story with action, move into emotions, and end with the teaching point of the story…. And some fun along the way.

The Closing

Honor the audience and leave them with HOPE
